Purpose
Through the writing, reading, discussion, and revision of our own poems, this workshop will focus on developing the writer’s voice. Our writing will be, for the most part, a translation of our individual thoughts and experiences into words on paper. In this workshop you will be given the chance to express yourself clearly on paper, even if you consider your thoughts a jumble of chaos. To those whose thoughts are blissfully clear and organized, you will be allowed to delve deep for any hidden chaos that can make your writing more lively and fresh. This workshop will give you feedback from an automatic audience—something every poem needs. Every participant should read the other writer’s poems and be prepared to offer helpful suggestions for improvements. I will offer optional assignments to generate ideas for your writing.
Requirements
Bring a poem plus copies (number to be specified later and will be based upon enrollment) to the first workshop.
