April 11-13, 2008

Some required things to bring:
Any copies of writing to share (your own or something that influences your writing)
Laptop and/or notebook and pens

Optional:
Flashlight
Sketchbooks and pencils
Snacks and beverages to share

Friday, April 11

Arrival anytime on this day
Dinner around 7:00
Discuss schedule
After dinner:
Read aloud a poem or some piece of writing that has affected you recently
Writing exercise or free write
Sample Exercise:  Write in the Dark – bring a flashlight to see your notebook.  Go outside and experience the darkness for a while.  Sometimes just forcing a change in perception can help trigger good ideas.  See what happens to all 5 (or 6) senses when you bring your words out in the dark.  Come back in an hour to read aloud with no comments.  Then, before bed, revise for the morning workshop.

Saturday, April 12

7-9 AM Continental breakfast is serve yourself
10 AM Workshop on Deck (weather permitting)
Discuss writing from last night or something you brought (previously written) to workshop. 
12 PM Break for lunch in town or bring sandwiches in.  People can go their separate ways if they would like.
2 PM Field Trip to conservation area or the Lighthouse in Chatham (we can take a vote) – bring notebooks and do a writing exercise.
5 PM Return to house to hang out, relax, socialize, make dinner plans for eating out or we can order in.
After dinner share without comment what you wrote on the field trip.
Refine/revise at night

Sunday, April 13

Continental Breakfast
10AM Workshop or one-on-one conference.  Pick out of hat a name to be your partner.
12 PM Lunch in town or order in.
Free time: go to beach, harbor, Treasure Chest (open from 9-3), wherever…
Depart when you need to!
